GDMS Analysis

General Specifications

  • The VG9000 Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometer (VG Elemental, UK) is used for both our production control and regular service measurements for customers from all over the world.
  • The VG9000 Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometer is widely used for the characterization of inorganic solids. Typically the system is used for the direct analysis of trace and ultratrace constituents in high purity metals and semiconductors.
  • Advantages:
    • rapid and direct analysis of solids
    • limits of detection in the range 0.5 to 5 ppb are typically achieved
    • low matrix effects
    • reliable quantitation
  • The liberation of material from the sample is completely independent of the ionization process. The independence minimizes matrix effects and enables quantitative data to be obtained with the minimum use of standards. Utilization of both Faraday cup and Daly detector enables to determine major and trace elements in a single analysis cycle.
  • During sixteen years we have gained an experience in purity certification of those materials as: Ga, GaAs, In, As, GaP, InSb, InP, Sb, InAs, Ge, Si, Al, CdTe, Cu, Zr, Ti, Ta, Pt, Pt-Rh, Au, Hg, steels, magnet alloy, Mo, W, Ga2O3, TiO2, and graphite.

Limits of Detection

  • Basically we do analysis under two conditions which differ by integration time ie. time of one analysis run. Therefore the results can be drawn as typical or low limit of detection (LOD). For example both of LOD for Gallium and GaAs are shown in the table.

Sampling

  • The sample to be analysed is in form of the pin with diameter max. 3 mm or cross section 2 x 2 mm and lenght max. 22 mm. We need at least two pins from every sample or adequate part of sample to be able to cut to pin form. In case of wafer it could be a part of wafer with with thickness of 0,2 mm minimum. Regarding Gallium samples we need the minimum 10 g packed in PE bottle or bag.

Results Turnaround

  • We guarantee to analyse your sample up to 7 days from delivery to our lab (typically up to 5 days). We routinely send results by fax or e-mail.

Prices

  • The price depends on the type of the sample, the type of the detection (typical detection limit or low detection limits) and number of samples to be analyzed per month. We provide the price quotation table upon request.
